Christopher Ricks: Professor of English - Boston University.
Born: Beckenham in 1933. Educated at Oxford. Lieutenant in the Green Howards. Professor of English at Bristol and Cambridge. Visiting professor: Berkeley, Stanford, Smith College, Harvard, Wesleyan and Brandeis. Described in the Boston Magazine as the greatest teacher in the post-Socrates era. A lone champion of dead white male European writers in the Anglophobic English Department at Boston University: "I sometimes think there is a specific prejudice against English people in English Departments".
