/von Bingen
O flower, you did not spring from the dew
nor from drops of rain, nor did the air sweep over you,
but the divine radiance
brought you forth on a most noble branch.
O branch,God had forseen your flowering
on the first day
of His creation.
You loved him perfectly
when your companions were terrified,
because they were human
and had no power
to gaze fully on the good
But you embraced him
in the ardent love of perfect charity
when you gathered to yourself
the sheaves of his commandments
When the time came
that you blossomed in your branches--
hail, hail was the word to you!
for the warmth of the sun distilled in you
a fragrance like balsam
For in you blossomed the beautiful flower
that gave fragrance
to all the spices
dry though they were
And they all appeared
in full verdure
Then a meal was prepared for humanity
and great joy for the banqueters.
Hence O sweet
in you no joy is lacking
Eve despised all these thing
O leafy branch,
standing in your nobility
as the dawn breaks forth:
now rejoice and be glad
free from habits
and stretch forth your hand
Now,however
praise to be the most high
